motherhood + creating more ease...
3 little things that are making a big difference in my life right now.
For the last few years I have been craving more ease, more peace and more simplicity. I have ebbed and flowed with different practices, habits and routines to get there. And honestly, I have discovered that part of finding flow is being ok that things are constantly changing and evolving.
Lately I have been doing a few things that have created more ease in my day to day family life, and I thought you might find inspiration with them too.
Have a weekday “lose dinner meal plan”
I don’t mean recipe planning, but simply a protein choice of the day. This has made my life so much easier. I don’t have to think about it as much and the routine is comforting. Right now we’re doing:
Monday - Bean/Vegetarian Meal
Tuesday - Tacos of any kind (with these gf tortillas)
Wednesday - Chicken
Thursday - Beef (I love this ancestral blend, it’s so great for you)
Friday - Fish
Saturday - Open (order in, dine out, or try a new recipe that takes more time)
Sunday - Roast Chicken (in my favorite roasting pan)
*I grew up with Sundays being roast chicken nights. I remember my grandma would roast it at her house and then bring it over for dinner. She would honk her horn of her big black Cadillac in the driveway so my dad could go greet her outside and carry it in…once inside, while my mom made the rice and veggies, she would sit at the kitchen table, sipping her scotch and teaching me to play gin rummy. I love this memory.
Let them put their clothes away
If you know me, you know that I like order and organizing. The Container Store is one of my favorite places. And up until now, I have always put away my kids clothes, neatly folded and lined up for easy access. But I would so often get frustrated with their messy drawers and inability to find what they wanted, when they wanted. So now instead of tidying up their drawers on the regular, I let them put away their clothes. And yes, they are not as neat or folded as well. But guess what…they know exactly where everything is and there are far fewer break downs around getting dressed.
Car Snacks
We are in the car A LOT right now, driving all the time between after school and weekend activities…I feel like an uber. I never wanted the kids to eat in the car, I love sitting down for a meal and really enjoying the food and having that special time as a family. But let’s be honest, even with my new “lose meal plan”, we often eat at different times. We’re just in this phase of life. And with 3 growing boys, someone is always hungry. So I’ve conceded and now allow the kids to eat snacks in the car, and my car console is basically a “healthy” vending machine. Right now it’s stocked with:
Beef Sticks (my kids love these)
Trail Mix from Trader Joes
I’d love to hear from all of you, what is working well to find flow in your life right now.
xx,
Allison
